Farmers Market Booth Manager

Job Summary: 

The Urban Canopy is a young and diverse organization working on cutting edge issues at the intersection of urban agriculture and sustainable food. We are seeking a skilled Farmers Market Booth Manager to help support our vision: to create a sustainable and equitable food system by way of environmental stewardship, local job creation, healthy-living initiatives, and community building. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Facilitate Market Logistics

  1. Loading/unloading vehicles with market supplies at warehouse and market location

  2. Setting up/breaking down market booth displays

  3. Driving Urban Canopy box truck and passenger vehicles between warehouse and market locations

Manage Market Booth Operations  

  1. Facilitate customer interactions and distribute community outreach materials

  2. Track and prepare market data and financials

  3. Operate POS system and manage cash box transactions

Qualifications:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license 

  • Be able to lift 50 lbs

  • Punctual, effective and clear communicator

  • Positive work ethic, able to work in a team and independently

  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and handle moderate amounts of uncertainty

  • Broader interest in sustainability and food

  • Comfortable working in a high speed environment and able to multitask multiple assignments with a high degree of detail

  • Must be available to work on weekends

  • Computer skills: Google Docs Suite and MS Office

Scheduling Information:

This Summer position constitutes 8-24 hours of work per week. Booth Managers spend a majority of their time at outdoor market locations. Market days/times can vary with both early morning shifts 6am -3pm and evening shifts 12pm - 8pm. 

Additional Information: 

  • Wage ranges from $17.50 to $18.50 per hour.

  • Up to 80 hours of PTO per year.

  • 401k plan options.

  • Maternity/Parental leave after one year.

  • UC employees have access to free and wholesale food: includes surplus produce from our markets and CSA, and occasional product from our partners. 

  • Complementary Compost Club membership: home pick-up option available only if employee lives within our service area. 

  • Eligible for healthcare option with a $200 stipend.
