Link Up Illinois is making healthy, local, farm-fresh foods more affordable and accessible by doubling the value of Link purchases at farmers markets, farm stands, food co-ops, and independent grocery and corner stores across Illinois.

Farmers Market Compost Drop-Off
Our Farmers Markets also allow you to compost. Dropping of compost in person is ideal for customers who regularly attend markets and don’t require recurring home pick up.
How it Works:
Market customers can pick up a compost bucket at any of our markets and drop it off when it gets full. $5 dollars for your first bucket and $5 per bucket swap.
*Please note that farmers market drop-off is not available for customers who are already enrolled in our residential pick up services. If you bring your own bucket or container instead of swapping our buckets, it must be hermetically sealed and we guarantee returning your provided container after drop-off.
Farmers Markets FAQ
-
A Compost Club membership involves a regular pick-up date where your compost is picked up from your home. This can be weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, with plans starting at 20$/mo. Compost drop-off, however, does not need to be on a schedule. Just bring your compost bucket to the market whenever you’re ready to swap it out and we’ll give you a new bucket for $5. Note that farmers market drop-off is not available for customers already in our residential pick-up services.

Typically, certain crops such as root vegetables, which can be stored and distributed during winter months, are available to some extent all year. The Urban Canopy typically attends the 61st Street indoor market during the winter season, and offers root vegetables, mushrooms, and processed goods. During the market season, The Urban Canopy attends an array of markets (refer to market calendar) and during certain seasons, certain crops are easier to find. During Spring, quick growing crops like spinach and peas are common as well as leafy greens like kale and chard. Summer brings more fruits like berries, peppers, and summer squash. Fall is typically cooler with crops like brussel sprouts and cauliflower maturing, along with winter squash. And winter usually consists of storage crops grown during the Fall meant to last until Spring, like beets, carrots, apples, and other roots or hardy fruits.
